City May OK Alcohol at Some Boise State Football Tailgating

People have been partying before Broncos games for years, and they're not going to stop. So city officials wonder if legalizing the activity in certain areas and keeping an eye on it is better than penalizing a few hundred people a year for what has become a Boise tradition.

"We know there's a lot of tailgate drinking that happens in these games and, you know, we think that's part of what makes Bronco football great," city spokesman Adam Park said. The proposal is still preliminary, so its details are subject to change.

The rough idea is to allow drinking in public places surrounding the stadium for about four hours before kickoff at the Broncos' 2013 games. Popular tailgating areas that could be in the legal zone include the eastern half of Julia Davis Park and parking lots south and east of the stadium.

University of Minnesota Plans Tailgate Lot for Students

University of Minnesota students may soon be able to enjoy food, alcohol and entertainment outside TCF Bank Stadium before Gophers football games.

In an attempt to bring more students to the stadium, the University is creating a proposal for a student tailgate parking lot across the street from the student entrance of TCF Bank Stadium.

Student groups on campus have pushed for a student tailgate lot in the past few years.

Nearly a dozen tailgate lots surround the area within a few blocks from the stadium, but none are designated solely for students.

Executive associate athletics director David Benedict said the Victory Lot — a parking lot northeast of the stadium behind the Thompson Center for Environmental Management — is the only location the University is considering.

Mets Fans Upset by Tailgate Beer Crackdown at Citi Field

Baseball fans heading to Citi Field this season to soak in a New York Mets game may be surprised to learn that New York City police officers will be patrolling the official team parking lot to hand out citations to tailgaters drinking in public.

Drinking alcohol in public has long been banned in New York Cityand its surrounding areas, but until recently, the law was rarely enforced inside local team stadium parking lots.

For example, the New York Jets, who play home games at the nearby MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, have no official policy on pregame tailgate beers on their website. The Jetswebsite explicitly states that tailgating "has become a ritual at the stadium."

Similarly, the New York Yankees, located in nearby Bronx, New York, have no express written policy on their website banning the consumption of tailgate beers in the team parking lot.

Frosty Raptor fans fueled by poutine

Given it was frigid outside, the Raptors tailgate party was a success.

Held outside the Air Canada Centre for the majority of Wednesday afternoon, the party saw a couple hundred fans — many ticket holders — indulge in:

Free poutine (the Raptors special was a carnivorous concoction of sausage, bacon and pulled pork)

Chili (about 700 pounds were consumed in 2 ½ hours)

Hot chocolate

“There is a lot more excitement in the air,” said Josh Samuel, a PhD student in theology at McMaster University. “Openers have a playoffs atmosphere.”

Mizzou Move to SEC Ends Tailgating Tradition

The University of Missouri’s move from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference will mean the end to a long-time halftime tradition, and it means that fans needing a drink or a smoke will just have to wait until after the game.

The school currently allows fans to leave Faurot Field at halftime to grab a drink or smoke a cigarette as long as their tickets are scanned both when the ticket-holder first enters the stadium and again after halftime.

But SEC rules don’t allow fans to leave and then re-enter the stadium for football games.

In Big 12 country, a lot of people make a habit of running back to the parking lots to top off the tanks.  I suppose that's why they make flasks!

Using An RV To Tailgate

Its football season and gridiron experts are fired up and ready to tailgate in stadium parking lots across the nation. Whether you’re a tailgating rookie or seasoned veteran, if you’re going to tailgate, make sure you do it right!

Just ask Ryan Lee from Monaco RV.

“We feel that RV tailgating is unlike any tailgating you’ve ever experienced before and simply can’t be matched for its numerous conveniences and benefits,” he said. “When you consider the evolution of tailgating culture in America, RV tailgating is simply the next evolutionary step. It’s taking everything that’s good about traditional tailgating, and super-sizing it, or taking it to the next level.”

Monaco RVs symbolize quality and efficiency while also providing the comforts of home and all the needs of your tailgating crew. The Monaco Vesta is perfect for any tailgate with first class amenities such as a bathroom, refrigerator, kitchen, satellite radio, exterior awning, and plenty of space for a party of two or twenty.

Pre-game and post-game activities are just as important as the game itself and you shouldn’t miss out. Monaco Coach RV owners have been known to deck out their RVs with integrated BBQ set-ups and multiple TVs hooked to dual satellites for maximum viewing pleasure. Some paint the satellite dish in team colors, pull out customized grills, and show off high-end stereo systems by playing their school’s marching band CD in anticipation of the big game.

“Tailgating is a great time for the whole family and unites old friends as well as ignites rivalries. It is all part of the experience. And there’s nothing like meeting your fellow tailgaters on a Saturday morning to show off your team spirit and tailgating dedication. And having the comforts and amenities of home with an RV will make you the king or queen of the tailgate this season,” Lee said.

You can find RVs for your tailgating needs and information on nearby dealers at www.monacorv.com.

Knowing When To End Your Tailgate

The tailgate is a given right and a time-honored tradition for sports fans that should never be fully sacrificed. But it’s important to remember that the tailgate isn’t the only thing on the docket when spending hours in the stadium’s parking lot.

Grilled food and cold beverages with close friends are merely a precursor to what matters most: the game. Pulling away from the grill and ending the party is tough. Shuffling through the crowd to enter the stadium is a tedious affair and, therefore, understandably postponed. The problem is that it’s unfair to the home team.
