Meet BOBBY the Bus, Y'all

OSU Cowboys - Bobby the BusDon’t you just love when things work out in an almost perfect fashion? The owners of “BOBBY the Bus” sure do. You see, after a night game, the group was sitting around on ice chests and folding chair talking about how they could step up their tailgating efforts. The group, which is comprised of three families, continued talking when a school bus, painted purple and green with a deck on the roof, drove right by them. Eureka! The very next day there was an ad in the paper stating that the Oklahoma City School District was having an auction with buses being included on the auction block. Some things are just meant to be. The bus was purchased for $700 six days later.

Guide to Buying & Building a Tailgate Rig

Gators Tailgate BusAlthough the thought of buying and building a tailgate vehicle may seem absurd to some (Although, I'm not sure who!), it can seem like a worthwhile expense in the quest for the world's greatest tailgate party. However, shopping for a vehicle that will strictly be used to tailgate before games is a bit different from buying your standard Honda Civic. Below are a couple points to consider when shopping and planning for the mega-beast of tailgating:

1. Plan out everything you want in a Tailgating Machine First.

Some people want a big outdoor deck while others want the most indoor space as possible. Some groups like roof racks while others are not so fond. Some groups want to sleep in the vehicle on roadtrips while others prefer not to take it on road trips at all. All of these minor decisions need to be discussed before making the leap of actually buying a vehicle. Make sure that the vehicle your buying to modify can accommodate for all of your group's tailgating needs.

OSU Ultimate Buckeye Tailgate Bus

Ohio State Ultimate Buckeye Tailgate BusThis 18-seat OSU Buckeye custom tailgater began originally as a 35-foot school bus, and is equipped with some of best features any tailgate fan would enjoy.

The inside of the bus is equipped with amenities such as a 12-volt cooler, microwave, DVD player, and CD player. Leather scarlet and gray recliners and sofas line the sides of the bus providing plenty of “hang-out” room during tailgating. A full restroom guarantees no one will need to step outside during those cold Columbus night tailgate sessions.

On The Prowl with the PantherFanz

Carolina PantherFanz Tailgate BusThe road to the creation of a Tailgate Machine comes with many obstacles. For some it could be money, space, time, or technical know-how, but for James Hastings and his buddies it was their wives. His dream was to have a self contained party bus that would eliminate a lot of the pre and post game preparation that took place at his house. James belongs to a tailgate group called the PantherFanz, which was increasing in size yearly, adding to the prep time getting ready for games.

The Muni Lot Browns Backers' DUMDOG

The Muni Lot Browns Backers' DUMDOGFor over fifteen years, The Muni Lot Browns Backers have been celebrating their great American Tailgate before every Cleveland Browns’ home game. Boasting over 700 members, the organization was the first sanctioned Browns backers organization based on the Cleveland tailgate experience. At the hub of this giant party is the iconic leader of the pack, known as “DUMDOG,” which is an old converted yellow school bus from Connecticut turned into an oversized Dumb & Dumber tailgating machine.

DUMDOG, which is actually the second bus turned out by the group, was originally created between April and October of 2006. It took nearly 6 months of sacrifice to get this beast into tailgating shape. When the idea of adding the helmet on the dog was invented, only one question came to mind: “Can we really do this?” But after several beers, a plan was concocted, and work began on its unique element.

Unsupervised and Ready to Tailgate

LSU TUB Unsupervised Tailgate BusWhat originally started out as a group of friends going out, and having a good time, has turned into a tailgate phenomenon. This group of friends dubbed their nights out without their girlfriends as “Unsupervised,” which grew into not only a tailgating theme, but into a lifestyle. Originally, they were just a bunch of guys with a trailer and ice chest, but over time turned it into a website, softball team, flag football team, sand volleyball team, and of course, the crown jewel, “The Unsupervised Bus.” The tailgate crew has grown into one of the most well know tailgate groups on the LSU campus!

Bus 12 Serves Up Aggie Pride for Texas A&M

Texas A&M Bus 12The rally cry of the Aggies from Texas A&M can be heard for miles from the top deck of Bus 12. Before you can even catch a glimpse of the two story tailgate machine, you can hear the sounds of its powerful speakers blaring the music of the nationally famous, Fightin' Texas Aggie Band from blocks away. In fact, it was noted that a woman in Lincoln, Nebraska dragged her husband from their 14th story hotel room believing that would catch a glimpse of the Aggie Band. Yet, once you get a view of this rally masterpiece, you are convinced you are in the presence of Aggie greatness!
